Navigating PC Upgrades: From GeForce RTX 3090 Ti to RTX 4080 SUPER
Today it’s a shorter one as I want to get started properly on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth already. However, I still wanted to maintain my roughly weekly blog posting schedule… I should also increase my once a quarter YouTube video schedule. One thing at a time. As for today, I just wanted to give a quick update on how I am getting on with my PC repairs, or the lack thereof really. The good news, both my GeForce RTX 3090 Ti GAMING OC 24G and my 16GB DDR4-3200, Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro are getting replaced free of charge.
In fact, for my GPU I am upgraded to a GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GAMING OC 16G. Now I say upgrade, but the fact that the VRAM is lower and that the actual performance isn’t really that much better, well it is better, but not really to the point where it would matter, so I really consider this more of a sidegrade. I had actually planned to skip the 40 series entirely and rock my 3090 Ti until the 5090 is a thing, but I am more than okay with this. I do however need to upgrade my case, as my current Lian Li O11 won’t really fit this GPU from what I understand. I’ve read that you can run it if you keep the side glass panel off, but that doesn’t sound like a very smart idea to me, especially now that we have a cat running, attacking everything that moves, blinks, or is shiny.
New PC case
This was all agreed on and confirmed at the end of last week, but I haven’t actually received anything yet, other than the provisional bill for the components. That is normal here, it automatically gets cancelled once I’ve sent in my faulty pieces. I might get the Lian Li O11 Vision or Vision Chrome as they’re both not that expensive and should fit both the 4080 Super, as well as my Elgato 4k Pro capture card. It’s the capture card, which prevents me from going with a vertical mount. I hope I get everything this week and can finally get back on with everything else I was doing. Namely Tekken 8 and Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising. Sure I’ll be busy with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for a while still, but just having the PC up and running again will just give me peace of mind, as it’s going to be one less thing I need to worry about.
This post is hopefully the penultimate update on this topic and the next one is just going to be a confirmation that everything has worked out just fine and nothing else needs to be worried about. Well, that’s the dream anyway. Wish me luck!
