So many updates and changes

It’s been just over a month since I started working part time at the café and I am still thoroughly enjoying it. I haven’t had much time to update my blog, but rather than wait for another week to do so, I thought it might be better to do a quick update instead. Just to keep the ball rolling.

NOTE: While this series is about my mental health and how I am trying to deal with my anxiety issues. NOTHING in here should be taken as advice or copied. If you struggle with anxiety, or with your mental health in general, go talk to a professional!

I actually got paid for the part time job for the first time, which wasn’t all that exciting, because it wasn’t about the money in the first place and it’s not a lot anyway, right? However, what I wasn’t prepared for were tips and I was especially taken by surprise after seeing to how much that actually adds up. My wife and I also went to Copenhagen for a couple of days from the 2nd to the 4th of October. I had unfortunately tweaked my back on the 30th, which made working at the café on the 1st a little complicated, but with enough painkillers and movement, especially movement, the pain wasn’t that big a deal. Getting out of bed though, that was the rough part, as that’s when my lower back really wants to screw me over. Once I get past that though and as long as I keep moving, I’ll get past it relatively quickly. In fact within just 4 days, meaning by the time we got back from Copenhagen, I was as good as new again. I skipped heavy lifting at the gym for that week, but went right back at it the week following that and even managed to keep my progressive overload plans going.

Arrival in Copenhagen

Travelling, shopping & anxiety updates

Copenhagen was really fun, we just kept walking, drinking coffees and eating up just about every single plant based option we could find. Most of it was really good too. There was this one tiny café called KAF, which serves up the most amazing croissants I have ever had. It’s hard to explain, if you are used to normal croissants anyway, but if you had been relegated to eating vegan croissants, you know how much those suck. The ones they are making there though, oh boy, it was blissful. They are extremely greasy, so it’s not exactly a health food, neither are standard croissants, but trust me, they are so worth the calories. If you ever go to Copenhagen and you are interested in plant based pastries, KAF is definitely the place to visit.

I have also purchased a few new things. Both my wife and I bought our iPhone 14 Pro Max the day they came out, well the delivery was a little delayed, so we didn’t actually get them on the day for the release, but we did get them before Ocotber. I have also purchased my first ever gaming PC with a 3090 ti and a new 4k144 monitor to really put that PC to work and when I say work I mean gaming. Don’t worry for the games I play that is overkill already, I will not need a 4090 right now. Plus that thing is not getting used for anything else other than games and OBS. As the monitor has a KVM and a USB-C connector, I can literally fire up my MacBook Pro via that one single cable and have all my peripherals running instantly. If I then decide to switch over to my new gaming PC, I don’t have to unplug anything at all. This is the most amazing thing I have ever experienced using dual or in my case, triple setups, as I also have a work laptop that I need to use for 8 hours a day. My worklaptop can also be connected via that same USB-C cable. The amount of tiny stressors that I don’t have to deal with anymore due this change is amazing. I also honestly never knew how much I needed MacOS in 144hz until I got that monitor. Everything is so smooth, I don’t even know how I ever lived in this 60hz peasant hellhole I’ve been in up until now. I like it, it’s really cool, I am not regretting anything. Lastly, I’ve also bought a new keyboard. I am currently editing a video on that subject though, so I’ll tell you about that once that video’s ready to go.

New Desk Setup

My desk setup is very different now than it used to be before those purchases. I’ve completely unplugged my PS5 and my Switch for instance. Now they’re both just decorative fluff pieces on my cheap IKEA Kallax shelf. In truth, my poor Switch isn’t even visible, as it’s hidden behind the left monitor. I might hook up my Switch again though, as Bayonetta 3 is out in a few days, but then there’s the whole Hellena Taylor drama, where I am not sure if I even want to do that, then again, there is always another side to every story, not to mention that it’s an entire team of people that have created this game. I gotta be honest, as much as I love her voice, I will probably end up buying the game anyway. I was thinking about pirating it and I might still play the game on Yuzu, if it performs well, but not paying for it, just doesn’t sit right with me. I say that because, Bayonetta’s story and thus the majority of lines that aren’t just little in battle quips, are just a bonus to me. I honestly purchase these types of games mainly because of Platinum’s combat engine, where as far as I am concerned the characters could be mute for all I care. I love her voice, as she made the character for me and from the trailers, yeah, Bayonetta doesn’t sound right with that new voice… but I can also just switch over to cringey-anime mode right? For Jeanne I ever prefer cringey anime mode. The majority of my time will be grinding out perfect grades, which has little to do with the voice actors and more with the programmers putting the combat together. So from that perspectice, I honestly cannot justify not-paying for the game. Not to mention I am wholeheartedly agianst piracy to begin with… unless it’s anime, then I really don’t care.

This is just a quick round up of things that I hadn’t manage to write down these past few weeks, but I wanted to at the very least quickly touch upon my anxiety issues as well. Everything I have been doing and keep doing, has really helped me so far. The work at the café, which is definitely carried by the incredibly nice people I am working with, new private projects with the new equipment I bought, new ideas I can focus on and working on my gym goals, it all really helps to keep my mind from wandering off. So yes, things are going well right now. However, I can’t keep all of these things going forever like this, so I still need to find something to make this more managable long-term. For the time being this is working out fine though, so at the very least I’ve bought myself some time to figure out what to do long-term. We’ll see! I’ll try to not leave a gap as long as this one for my next update. See you next time.
