Second week of part-time work

Saturday and Sunday (24th and 25th of September) were me second and third day of working at the Café and it’s honestly quite enjoyable. My whole weekend was kind of packed, something that’s probably fairly normal for most people, but for me that’s a very new concept to get accustomed to. Let’s roll back a few days first though.

NOTE: While this series is about my mental health and how I am trying to deal with my anxiety issues. NOTHING in here should be taken as advice or copied. If you struggle with anxiety, or with your mental health in general, go talk to a professional!

New phone

I finally have a new phone! I’ve bought my iPhone 7 Plus the day it came out, ignored the iPhone 8 series, because that was hardly an upgrade anyway and then ignored everything ever since, as I didn’t like the notch. When the iPhone 14 Pro Max was shown, and that the notch had been redesigned, with some visual flair and playfulness in mind, I finally made the decision to upgrade. Also the iPhone 7 Plus is stuck at the last update just before iOS 16, which also aided in my decision making process. As with every new piece of gear, the first few days are super exciting, but it then quickly fades into the background and only once your battery starts to die a slow and painful death… or rather, drains and dies extremely quickly, that’s when the cycle starts anew. At least for right now I am still in the honeymoon phase. My wife and I both ordered our phones on the same day, as she wanted an iPhone 14 Pro Max in purple though, her’s is still not here yet. As she’s still rocking her 7 Plus, she’s forced to watch me being all giddy with my new phone. She’ll be fine, she’s not as weak minded as I am, plus her’s will be here in a few days as well.

As with all of these posts on this subject, I am not advocating for splurging out a lot of money for no reason. For myself, this was a nice way to get one stressor out of my head; the constant struggle of having to charge my phone two to three times a day (I wish I was joking). Now that I no longer use my iPhone 7 Plus, I can finally let my iPhone 5s, which I was using as a webcam, rest in peace. The iPhone 7 Plus will now take over as my streaming webcam instead. Upgrades all around the place.

Otto's Burger Hamburg Sternschanze und Grindel

The weekend

This time around I was working at the café on both Saturday and Sunday and it was fine as well. During my break on Saturday I was reminded that I really do not like not doing anything. The whole reason I am working at this café is to avoid exactly that scenario after all. It was fine though, we are only talking about 30 minutes after all and another three hours after that I had finished my second shift at the café. After work on Saturday I headed back home to re-dress to go out and eat some delicious burgers at Otto’s Burger on Hamburg’s Sternschanze with my wife and some close friends. I really like that place as their vegan patties (portland patty) are really good. Beyond is great and all, but that portland patty can certainly hold its own. Also, Otto’s isn’t an exclusively vegan place, in fact the vegan options are the bonus, so it’s a great place to go to with pretty much everyone that likes burgers and fries. We had a really good time and at around 11 PM we decided to head home.

On Sunday my wife picked me up during my break and we had a little 30 minute stroll before I had to continue working. While this was much better for me, that however also meant that I didn’t sit down at all the entire time and after work we went to hang out with my dad and my brother and his wife for a little bit, which meant more moving around. We didn’t stay too long as my brother also wanted to head home after an hour or so. They had mainly come to Hamburg as it was one of those rare Sundays were all the shops are open, meaning that they had been out and about for quite some time already. On our way home I realised that my mind was very calm and that I felt… content, is probably the closest word I can think of. In the evening we finished off the last two episodes of Extraordinary Attorney Woo on Netflix and called it a night.

I am not sure for how long I can do this, working 7-days a week certainly isn’t something to strive for, but for the time being this really helps. So until it doesn’t, I think I will just go with the flow and enjoy not being stuck in my own head too often. The upcoming weekend I am only working Saturday, but at that point I will have worked eleven days straight without a break. That Sunday might be good point to reflect again on how I am feeling. We are going to Copenhagen on Sunday though, so the trip will hopefully be relaxing as well. I think it will be, we are really just going to eat all the vegan options Copenhagen has to offer!  If I don’t forget to take pictures, I’ll be sure to post them. See you next time
