Crossplay is bad, because of Street Fighter V
No it’s not! My name’s Sasa and I will see you… Fine, but just so we are clear, in case you are expecting me to agree with the sentiment of “yeah crossplay is bad and shouldn’t exist” at any point, it’s not going to happen. Crossplay is necessary and I will die on this hill, proclaiming this until the very end.
Let’s start with a question. What is the worst reason to say that any feature that is conceptually designed to make things better “is bad and should not be implemented”? In my opinion and granted it is just an opinion, it’s pointing at a previous implementation that is completely disconnected from the product you’re talking about right now.
Street Fighter V’s rollback implementation was awful, so we should never try this again, even though games before it like Skullgirls and Killer Instinct made it work perfectly fine?
Street Fighter V’s crossplay creates one sided rollback. This is funny in my opinion, because this also happened in PS4 to PS4 connections. Not to mention other games, even those with a good rollback implementation, with functioning crossplay exist already, like, once again, Killer Instinct. So again just saying crossplay is bad because SFV didn’t do it right, still doesn’t make sense.
You cannot keep looking at one bad attempt and every time someone tries to improve on it go “but what about Street Fighter V”? How are things supposed to get better, if you refuse to let anyone fix it? There’s a joke in here somewhere about the acceptance of vaccines today, but I’ll save it.
Guilty Gear Strive has absolutely nothing to do with Street Fighter V, other than being in the fortuitous position of learning from its mistakes. Yes Strive’s online is awful, I’ve ripped into that before, however, the actual connectivity during a match is amazing. So we have seen that Arc System Works is capable of doing things correctly, so why not just let them do it and then complain about it. Without pointing to Street Fighter V every single time anything happens.
Here’s the thing right, I have experienced what it’s like to not be able to play a game you really love, in my case that’s Granblue Fantasy Versus. Its netcode is just the worst and PSN just seems outright dead for that game anyway. Whatever measures Arc System Works wants work out, measures that are designed to increase both the longevity and the player base of Guilty Gear Strive; full steam ahead please. Just make sure to include filters for those that only want to play in their own system’s environment and everybody should be happy right? There, that’s something you can take from SFV, if you keep bringing it up anyway.
Alright for real this time, thank you very much for watching. Let me know your thoughts either here or in the YouTube comments on crossplay and, if you’re against it, please also go into detail and explain to me why. On YouTube feel free to also leave a like, dislike, subscribe, unsubscribe, hit the bell icon or not, all cool with me. See you next time.
